Restyled Vintage Wedding Gown
This bride wanted to wear her mother's wedding gown from the 1960s. The gown was made by the bride's grandmother and was originally a high-necked, long-sleeved gown with a detachable train. We restyled the gown with a more modern strapless neckline and used lace from the long sleeves to embellish the back of the skirt.

Pictured on the left is the bride's mother on her wedding day. On the right is the bride trying on the gown at our first appointment. She wanted a more modern look that would still retain many of the features of the original gown. We decided to remove the high, sheer neckline and long sleeves, to turn the bodice into a strapless design. I constructed and inserted a boned inner corselette to provide comfortable support for the gown. I also removed lace panels from the long sleeves and applied them to the back of the skirt, and moved covered buttons from the sleeves to the center back of the bodice. After shortening the skirt at the hem and reapplying the lace hem, the transformation was complete, and the "new" custom wedding gown is shown above.
